gridlock

''gridlock'' a.k.a. ''mike wells'' & ''mike cadoo'', a high-fidelity duo from ''san francisco'', california, regretfully does not exist anymore. they've started as a classic ''dark waved electronic / industrial'' band way back in 1994 with ''mike welles'' as the only member. in 1995, ''mike cadoo'' has joined the project & the first demo e.p.'s, in the form of cassettes, were released. over the years they've been constantly improving their way of production & their music structure. because of that, in next couple of years they've became one of the most important ''i.d.m.'' music makers in its history, combining high-end ''i.d.m.'' production with a touch of ''industrial'', ''ambient'' & ''electronic''. sadly, in 2005 gridlock's existence has ended... in memory of this ''electronic'' outstanders i'm bringing you this very best:

01. ''enzyme'' (e.p., 1998)
02. ''5.25'' (limited edition, 1999)
03. ''further'' (1999)
04. ''trace'' (2001)
05. ''engram'' (e.p., 12'' vinyl, 2002)
06. ''live traces'' (limited edition, 2002)
07. ''the connected series #4'' (split e.p. with ''steel'', 12'' vinyl, 2003)
08. ''formless'' (2003)

* note: there's a fantastic review by someone who calls him/herself ''mmk1138'' &
           it's about ''formless'' album:

''not only a new level in the i.d.m. genre, but also a rare example of divine, utterly perfect &
infinitely beautiful release. it's not formless at all - the form is well planned & wonderfully
executed - but it's definitely timeless. apparently it was produced by god himself, or at least
someone close to him... buy it, steal it, borrow it, but do anything to get it... missing it is unforgivable.''

dryft

''dryft'' a.k.a. ''bitcrush'' (real name ''mike cadoo'') is mostly known as a member of high-end ''electronic'' ex-duo called ''gridlock''. after dissolution of ''gridlock'' in 2005, ''mike'' went in two separate ways. one was ''dryft'' which is a ''drum & bass / i.d.m. / ambient / industrial / electronic'' type of thing & ''bitcrush'' which is more like ''electronic / i.d.m. / glitch / ambient / downtempo'' mix-up. here i present mike's ''dryft'' side at its very best:

01. ''cell'' (2000)
02. ''the mytotyc exyt'' (e.p., 2002)

01. ''shuffle'' (1-track single, promo, unofficial release, 2008)
02. ''minor tapes'' (e.p., unofficial release, 2010)

coldcut featuring robert owens

* ''jonathan more'' & ''matt black'' a.k.a. ''coldcut'' are one of the most influential d.j. & production acts in the history of ''electronic'' music. i could write lines & lines about them, but, more or less, i'm sure that you're already know all that...

* ''robert owens'' became one of the figures most associated with the late 80's golden era of ''chicago house''. born in ''ohio'' in 1961, he grew up singing in the church, but was working as a d.j. when he met pioneering ''chicago'' producer ''larry heard'' in 1985. the pair formed ''fingers inc.'' with ''ron wilson''. the group dissolved soon after, though, as heard's burgeoning solo-production career took over. soon after, ''owens'' started with releases on his own, signing for ''4th & broadway'' label. a solid effort, though it soon disappeared within the quickly disintegration of ''chicago house'' scene. by the early 90's ''owens'' basically retired from music, instead preferring to run his ''christian'' bookstore. in 1996 he decided to go back to music where he remained till the present time...

* ''henrik schwarz'', a german d.j., producer & a hi-fi adventurist. hailing from the southern part of germany, ''bodensee'', ''henrik schwarz'', is a long time veteran in the german ''deep house'' scene. d.j.-ing was his first love, having built a reputation at major events in the early 90's, but a desire to breach musical & technological boundaries pushed him into production & soon his live laptop sessions were born. today he takes his live sets & 9 years of production experience to crowds worldwide.

* here i present all four of them in one single masterpiece:

01. ''coldcut featuring robert owens - walk a mile in my shoes
(henrik schwarz remixes)'' (12'' vinyl, 2006)

basement jaxx vs. metropole orkest

''basement jaxx'', the ''london'' duo has brought their own edge to ''house'' with a ''latin'' & sometimes ''balearic'' feel. internationally recognized with an interesting style in remixes & production techniques, their albums always cause a stir. the same pattern was used here - a collaboration with ''metropole orkest'' (a.k.a. ''metropole orchestra''), a dutch broadcasting orchestra, formed by ''dolf van der linden'' all the way in 1945. the orchestra has worked with a wide range of international artists throughout its history, playing a repertoire of cabaret, film music, musicals, jazz & pop. with 54 current members & ''vince mendoza'' as the present chief conductor, they went into another sound-clash & this time it's ''basement jaxx vs. metropole orkest''.
you just won't believe the results they've made, until you hear it:

01. ''basement jaxx vs. metropole orkest'' (c.d. edition, 2011)

zodio

originally, ''zodio'' was formed at the end of 1970's & it was founded by, at that time, an 15 year old boy from ''palermo'', sicilia. their style has changed many shapes troughout the years, from ''rock'' & ''psychedelic pop'' to ''electronic'' & ''industrial''. what i'm offering you hear is their best release so far (by my opinion). it's ''electronic / rock / industrial / neo-folk / indie'' crossover called:

01. ''fuel'' (2009)

jam_under

this superb ''1-track'' ride from ''jam_under'' from ''köln'', germany, could be described as ''cyber dub'' meets ''big beat'' & some ''acid'':

01. ''kingston smile'' (1-track single, 2010)

lamb

''andy barlow'' & ''louise rhodes'', a.k.a. ''lamb'', are one of the most interesting british ''electronic / freestyle fusions'' offshoots of the late 20th & the early 21st century. here presented with their best 6 singles, so far:

01. ''gold'' (12'' c.d., 1996)

red snapper

''red snapper'' are a british instrumental band founded in ''london'' in 1993 by ''ali friend'' (double bass), ''richard thair'' (drums) & ''david ayers'' (guitar). most notable for their pioneering synthesis of acoustic instruments & electronic textures. three core members are also joined by various guest musicians & vocalists on different records.
in early 2002, the band split up & went separate ways focusing on their solo projects. in 2007 the band was reunited & in 2008 they started touring again. it's 2011 & their new album is out, called ''key''. but, we're going to skip all that & move straight to something most interesting i've found quite by accident:

01. ''inna dis ya timeya recordings presents red snapper'' (unofficial release, 2009)

01. ''all herbs'' (e.p., unofficial release, 2010)

dark souls day

''dark souls day'' can be easily described as the ''sisters of mercy'' of greece. their awesome ''gothic / dark wave / alternative rock'' demo e.p. is one of the best releases of this genre i've heard in my entire life:

01. ''x-lives'' (e.p., 2010)

dubh thrian

you'll find much similarity with ''burial'' (a.k.a ''william emmanuel bevan''), ''sidhartha'' (a.k.a. ''andrey kiritchenko'') & some ''cyber dub'' or ''i.d.m.'' artists in the music of ''dubh thrian''. but that doesn't make him any less interesting than he really is. on the contrary, he's good enough to stand here on his own, proudly, like any other irish man:

01. ''isolater'' (e.p., 2011)

link: http://www.mediafire.com/?2a7zt067941zyzg

dreadzone

straight from the u.k., cyberdubbed with ''earl 16'' on the mic:
